Biography

Zakiya is a dedicated Pediatric Occupational Therapist with over a decade of experience specializing in working with children across various settings. Holding both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in occupational therapy, she has cultivated a comprehensive skill set that empowers her to facilitate meaningful growth and development in her young clients. 

With a strong foundation in sensory integration and Neurodevelopmental Techniques (NDT), Zakiya utilizes innovative strategies to support children in enhancing their sensory, postural, and motor skills. Her passion extends to improving visual development, visual-perceptual skills, and addressing ADL and handwriting concerns, ensuring a holistic approach to each child’s therapy.  

As a certified Sensory Integration Therapist, Zakiya continuously enriches her expertise through ongoing education. Her qualifications include specialized training in the Neurodevelopmental Technique (NDT), The Alert Program for Self-Regulation, Visual Processing Therapy, Kinesiology Taping, Primitive Reflex Integration, and Handwriting Without Tears (Level 1). She has also gained valuable insights from sessions focused on Cortical Visual Impairment and engaging workshops, such as the Sensory workshop with King of Swing.  

Guided by the belief that every child deserves to be met where they are, Zakiya is committed to fostering growth through interactive play and socialization. She takes pride in identifying each child’s unique strengths, interests, and needs, crafting individualized plans that promote collaboration among parents and professionals. One of the most fulfilling aspects of her work is witnessing her patients’ confidence blossom as they achieve goals, they once thought unattainable. This deep sense of fulfilment motivates Zakiya and inspires her dedication to her practice every day.
